HOW TO DAVID BECKHAM FREE KICK

1. Start by placing the ball on the ground and make sure the ball is still

2. Now, take 6-7 steps away from the ball

3. Analyze the current free kick situation; distance, the wall and the position of the goalkeeper

4. Try to approach the ball from a 45 degrees angle

5. Close the angle as you approach the ball

6. During your last step (just before kicking the ball) you should place your supporting foot about 5-6 inches from the ball

7. Now, swing the arm of your supporting leg in a circle (see the video of how Beckham do it)

8. Bend your body back a little to force the ball to lift

9. Provide the ball with spin as your kick it

10. Keep in mind that the ball will fly where your supporting foot is pointing

Tips

• Don’t kick the ball too hard. Remember, you want the ball to fly over the wall. The harder a kick is the harder it is to get the ball over the wall

• Keep your body relaxed during the whole free kick moment

• Try to provide enough spin to the ball to get it away from the goalkeeper

• Don’t reveal where you will kick the ball

• Keep your supporting leg steady on the ground as you kick the ball

• Make sure that the wall is not to close the ball. The closer the wall is the harder it is to get the ball over the wall

• The players in the wall will generally jump and try to head the ball. If you think that your opponents will jump in the kicking moment, you should try to kick the ball under the wall

• You should also try to imagine yourself performing his free kick in a real soccer game

Alex Ferguson offers David de Gea backing as Manchester United's long-term first-choice goalkeeper

"De Gea is the long-term prospect, there is no question about that, Anders has done very well. He has provided tremendous opposition to David. But the potential of David is obvious," Ferguson said.

After signing for 18 million pounds in the summer from Atletico Madrid, De Gea's start to his career at Old Trafford was unconvincing after mistakes in the Community Shield against Manchester City and United's Premier League match at West Brom directly led to goals conceded.

The Spaniard appeared to settle after his early blunders, but an error from a corner which handed Blackburn Rovers a shock win at Old Trafford on New Year's Eve prompted the return of Anders Lindegaard, who played in the 3-0 defeat at Newcastle United and kept his place for United's FA Cup third-round win over Manchester City.

"We have been leaving him [De Gea] out of games quite regularly, there has been a nice mix of opportunities for Anders Lindegaard, playing in Europe and some of the league games," Ferguson said.

"Just because he [De Gea] has lost two bad goals against Blackburn doesn't mean that all of a sudden we are neglecting that part of both of them playing."

Ferguson also confirmed midfield duo Tom Cleverley and Ashley Young are still on the treatment table and expects the two to be ruled out of January's fixtures.

"The plan for Cleverley is to start running two weeks on Monday and join us the following week. He is maybe a month away," said Ferguson.

"Ashley is four weeks away easily. The bleeding never came out after the Fulham game and is only starting to come out now. That has been unfortunate. We don't think it is a serious injury but we can't prejudge it until we have all the facts."

Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United: Rooney hits brace & Scholes returns as ten-man hosts are dumped out of FA Cup in five-goal classic

Manchester United was given an almighty scare but did just enough to hold off Manchester City’s spirited, 10-man fight-back to secure a 3-2 victory and progression to the fourth round of the FA Cup.
A brace from Wayne Rooney along with a tremendous volley by Danny Welbeck sent the visitors into a stunning 3-0 lead in the first half, with City captain Vincent Kompany dismissed for a challenge on Nani.
But Roberto Mancini’s side roared back with 10 men after the break and goals from Aleksandar Kolarov and Sergio Aguero brought them agonisingly close to an incredible comeback.
City started the match at great speed, forcing Sir Alex Ferguson’s side to weather an early storm in the Manchester rain, but as that pressure began to subside the hosts were hit by a stunning double blow.
Rooney has had a disappointing few weeks to say the least but he looked ominously sharp as he sprung a United counterattack with the help of Ryan Giggs. Antonio Valencia, so often the Englishman’s partner in crime since his return from injury this season, found some space on the right and fired in a first-time cross that Rooney superbly converted from ten yards with his head.
If that was a setback for Mancini’s team, its hopes took a more devastating hit minutes later. Referee Chris Foy’s decision to show Kompany a red card for a challenge on Nani will ignite debate and divide opinions; the Belgian defender appeared to win the ball but flew into his tackle with two feet in a reckless enough manner to immediately draw the protestations of Rooney.
To its credit, City responded strongly with ten men. Aguero was frequently at the center of their attacking play and curled an effort shortly after Kompany’s dismissal that Lindegaard did well to palm around his post.
It was undoubtedly held back by the numerical disadvantage, however, with Milner withdrawn to right back and Micah Richards moved into the center of defense. United, looking comfortable when its opponents did get on the ball, gradually began to assert more control.
Its lead was doubled when Evra, attacking Milner aggressively down the United left-hand side, was able to send a low cross into the City box after Nani’s run inside left him with room to move. When that ball hit a leg and flew into the air, Welbeck was on hand to react quickest with a tremendous volley on the turn that sailed past Pantilimon.
United’s 6-1 loss to its Manchester – and now Premier League title – rivals at Old Trafford in October was apparently fresh in its minds, because Ferguson’s side were by no means content to see the game out with the security of a two-goal lead.
Welbeck had Richards and Kolarov for company when Giggs’ pass slipped him into the City penalty area but some neat footwork drew a clear foul from the latter. Foy had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, and after his penalty was well-saved by the unfortunate Pantilimon, Rooney reacted well to head home the rebound and extend his side’s lead.
Welbeck almost made it four when he just failed to touch home a superb Valencia cross and by the break Mancini had seen enough to acknowledge the game was well out of his side’s reach. David Silva and Adam Johnson’s legs were rested as they were withdrawn at halftime for Pablo Zabaleta and Stefan Savic. City reverted to a 5-2-2 formation with Zabaleta and Kolarov operating as wing-backs.
Kolarov made up for the error that led to the United penalty by pulling a goal back shortly after the restart and maybe offering the most optimistic of City fans a glimmer of hope. After Richards’ charging run forward was ended prematurely by Evra, the Serbian curled the resulting free-kick over the wall and beyond Lindegaard.
Not long after his goal, Kolarov again appeared to commit a foul in his own area. This time he impeded Valencia’s run but Foy was unmoved.
Ferguson was confident enough to introduce the returning Scholes on the hour mark, but one of his first touches was not the finest of his illustrious career. The 37-year-old weighted a simple pass from a throw-in incorrectly, allowing the tireless Milner to steal in. His cross found Aguero, who put City on the verge of a remarkable comeback by poking home the rebound after Lindegaard had saved his initial effort.
A reinvigorated Etihad Stadium might have thought the comeback was on but as the minutes ticked away the reality of City’s situation, with ten men, became more apparent. United began to retain the ball with increasing ease, with Scholes, unperturbed by his earlier error, dictating the play like he had never been away.
Kolarov, very much at the center of this match, had time to send in a cross that Phil Jones appeared to block with his arm before firing in a free-kick in the dying moments that caused panic in the United box but Ferguson’s side did just enough to ensure they moved into the fourth round.

Barcelona's Lionel Messi beats Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo and teammate Xavi to win third straight Ballon d'Or

Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona and Argentina has beaten Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo and team-mate Xavi to claim the FIFA Ballon d'Or award for the best player of 2011.
It is the third straight Ballon d'Or success for Messi, who has now won the first two awards since the prestigious prize was merged with FIFA's World Player of the Year gong in 2010.
Messi was the clear favorite to claim the title after helping Barca to a third straight Liga title in 2011 and a second Champions League success in three years.

Simply The BestMessi beat teammates Andres Iniesta and Xavi to the award in 2010, even though his colleagues had shone for Spain in La Roja's World Cup success in South Africa.
This time around there appeared little doubt he would claim the prize, as the undoubted star of a Barca side dominating domestically and on the continent in 2010-11.
Barca claimed La Liga and the Champions League last term, losing out to Real Madrid only in the final of the Copa del Rey in April, when Ronaldo rose to head the winner and secure his side's first silverware since 2007-08.
Messi enjoyed the last laugh over his Portuguese rival in 2011, however, claiming five trophies overall with Barca as the Catalans picked up the Spanish Supercopa, the UEFA Super Cup and the World Club Cup later in the year.
The Argentine forward, still only 24, has now drawn level with three-time winners Michel Platini
[the only other player to win three in a row], Johan Cruyff and Marco van Basten.
And Cruyff, who has watched Messi emerge at Barca over the last few years, believes the Argentine can go on to claim the award six or seven times.

Messi also came out on top in the Goal.com 50 countdown of the world's best players in 2010-11, earlier on this year.
The Argentine scored 59 goals in 70 appearances for club and country in 2011, including 55 in 57 for Barcelona. He also racked up an incredible 35 assists in the calendar year.

THE KING IS BACK

Second-half substitute Thierry Henry netted on his return to the Emirates to send a sluggish Arsenal side into the FA Cup fourth round against a resilient Leeds United outfit.

The on-loan New York Red Bulls attacker scored with only his fifth touch since coming on midway through the second period to set up a home clash against fellow Premier League side Aston Villa in the next round.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger handed a number of fringe players the chance to impress with talented youngsters Ignasi Miquel, Francis Coquelin and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all named in a strong-looking starting lineup.

As for the visitors, on-loan Tottenham winger Andros Townsend was given the chance to impress against his parent club’s bitter local rivals, while manager Simon Grayson opted for Argentine striker Luciano Becchio to lead the line.

The home side started the match brightly, bossing possession against its Championship opponent, with Russia international Andrey Arshavin squandering a couple of presentable chances early on.

Former Sevilla man Sebastien Squillaci came close to breaking the deadlock in the 14th minute. Mikel Arteta played in a wicked set piece which the French defender met with his head, but failed to test Andy Lonergan in the Leeds goal.

Leeds finally posed a threat midway through the first half after Arsenal failed to clear a free kick. Mika Vayrynen picked up the loose ball before driving to the byline. His attempted cross deflected nicely into the path of Becchio who could only smash his close-range effort over.

Wenger’s defensive injury problems took another turn for the worse after Coquelin picked up an apparent hamstring injury and was subsequently replaced by debutant Nico Yennaris.

Despite continuing to dominate possession Arsenal failed to create another chance and the two sides headed into the halftime interval all square after failing to hit the target.

Arsenal opened the second period with greater urgency and finally managed to work Lonergan. Oxlade-Chamberlain surged down the left-hand side before cutting his cross back to Marouane Chamakh. The Moraccan then layed the ball off to Arteta who forced Lonergan into a smart save.

With less than 25 minutes remaining, Henry made his much-anticipated comeback as Wenger decided to add the Frenchman and Theo Walcott into the mix as he strived for the win, with the former Barcelona forward's arrival sparking the previously reserved home supporters into a frenzy.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 77th minute with Henry capping a dream return to action for the club which helped to turn him into a world star. Alex Song played it through to the New York Red Bulls man who took his time before bending a trademark finish past the hapless Lonergan.

Leeds almost managed to strike back instantly through a Ross McCormack header which the previously untested Wojciech Szczęsny did well to hold. The visitors continued to push for a goal and Szczęsny was again called into action by a stinging effort from former Chelsea man Mikael Forssell.

With his side safely into the next round, Henry will be hoping his goalscoring cameo will be enough to force himself into contention for a starting berth for the Gunners Premier League trip to Swansea at the weekend.

Awal tahun 2012 sepertinya bukan waktu yang menguntungkan buat dua tim asal kota Manchester. Setelah sebelumnya Manchester United dipermalukan tamunya Blackburn Rovers 2-3 pada Sabtu (31/12/2011), kini giliran Manchester City yang tumbang dari tuan rumah Sunderland, 1-0, Minggu (1/1/2012) pada lanjutan kompetisi Liga Primer Inggris.
Kekalahan City cukup menyakitkan.
Susunan pemain
Sunderland: Simon Mignolet, Wes Brown (Mattthew Kilgallon 26), John O'Shea, Jack Colback, Craig Gardner, Lee Cattermole, David Vaughan (Ahmed Elmohamady 83), Stephane Sessegnon, James McClean, Sebastian Larsson, Nicklas Bendtner (Dong-Won Ji 78)
Man-City: Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott, Vincent Kompany, Aleksandar Kolarov (Micah Richards 67), Pablo Zabaleta, Gareth Barry, Nigel De Jong (Sergio Aguero 46), Samir Nasri (David Silva 55), Adam Johnson, Edin Dzeko, Yaya Toure
